FAQs

  • As with any MIDI controller you'll need to select the device in Ableton Live's Settings page. Open the Settings page in Ableton Live and under the Link, Tempo & MIDI tab, ensure ROTO CONTROL is selected as a Control Surface with Roto-Control selected as an Input and Output device. Be sure to tick Track Sync and Remote boxes for Input and Output Ports. If you cannot see or select Roto-Control from the Control Surface list, restart Ableton Live.

    Still not appearing?

The Roto-Setup App automatically installs everything you need to run in Ableton Live, although it may have had trouble locating your Ableton Live User Library (you may have moved it from its default location). To fix this, open Roto-Setup select File then Select Ableton Live User Library - then navigate to the User Library location and click Select Folder. Then restart Ableton Live and everything should be working.

Note: you can find your User Library in Ableton Live Settings page, under the Library tab.

  • No, we find the current MIDI spec meets our current needs. We will investigate the possibility of supporting MIDI 2.0 in the future.

  • Yes, we are developing more dedicated modes. Currently, MIDI Mode works like a traditional MIDI controller, and you can control any MIDI compatible software and hardware.

  • The Roto-Setup App can customize all your knobs and button settings in MIDI and PLUGIN modes, including MIDI assignments, labels, colors, haptics and toggles.

  • No, SysEx is not fast enough for the type of bi-directional communication with Roto-Control and your MIDI compatible gear. SysEx is great for patch editors and transferring other data to and from your synths.

  • Yes, to learn a third-party plugin first 'configure' the controls you want from the plugin by clicking the little triangle in the 'device bar' and then press the 'configure' button to choose the controls you want.

Now you can LEARN these controls to Roto-Control.

Press LEARN on Roto-Control touch the knob or button you want to assign to, move the control on the plugin. Press LEARN on Roto-Control to confirm, done!

  • If your unit starts up in DEMO Mode you will need to download the Roto-Setup App and update your Roto-Control firmware right away. If you put your unit into DEMO Mode, remove the power and restart to exit.

  • Hold the LEARN button (keep it pressed) whilst touching the knob or button you want to clear, once. You will be promoted to CLEAR, touch the knob or button again to confirm.

  • It is currently not recommended. Modes in Roto-Control can conflict with each other, and you'll end up confusing yourself and your gear. Roto-Control compact size was designed to be complimentary to other controllers and gear.

  • Pretty much, Roto-Control knobs are super-fast. Give it a try and watch those knobs move!

  • We are working to bring new features to Roto-Control. Please follow us on our socials and keep your Roto-Control up to date for the latest features.
